New Country. New challenges and adventures. New places to explore and vegan finds to make. Each time I go to another city I check out vegan places I would like to go to in advance and often make a list of accidentally vegan products to find in supermarkets. For Barcelona I made a good list and I can tell you this city is actually a paradise for vegans as myself! Below I will give you a number of the places I went to and my favorite spots of them, what I found in supermarkets besides telling you a bit about my overall experience I had in Barcelona when it comes to veganism.
Vegesana
This was the place we had dinner at on our day of arrival. It's quite hidden and was 2 minutes away from our Airbnb. The owners are super sweet and the food is alright. My dish was very tasty because it had so many crunchy peanuts inside. Not disappointing but also not outrageous as there are definitely better options around.

This place is pretty close to La Sagrada Familia so we wen't there spontaneously for lunch on our first day. We had burgers, fries and onion rings. It was okay but also not a bummer. Depends if you're a fan of fast food which I'm actually not to 100%.
Chök - The Chocolate Kitchen
Chök was the place where I went to twice because firstly there are several stores around and secondly counts to my top 3 of the places we went to!! It's not fully vegan but has lots of options and told me that they even want to expand their vegan and gluten-free range in future. The first two pictures are from our first day where we had the Nutella Donut which was filled with a generous amount of vegan Nutella. The other pictures are from Friday in the store on the Carrer del Carme 3 located quite central. We both shared a white chocolate, raspberry & peanut cronut as well a dark chocolate & orange cronut which was topped with vegan vanilla creme/pudding. We both absolutely LOVED them! Our fav was the white choc one!! So fresh and fluffy and beats everything I tried before 💜
Vegan Bowls
This was a place where I actually planned to get more than a coffee but somehow wasn't completely convinced as there was no place to sit down comfortably. Only two tiny tables within the corner(it's not an actual store you can walk inside). I had the Pink Beetroot Latte and one Unicorn Latte both with oat milk on two different days and liked the beetroot more as the unicorn one wasn't really colorful and beetroot is a little cheaper. The taste was great tho and for 2,10€ a really nice price :) They sell everything from healthy fresh bowls to Mac n' Cheese as well different kind of sweets.
Maoz Vegetarian
So I was about to freak out over this place but now looking at the online menu I'm a bit scared that I got wrong information. While ordering I got told everything is vegan(and the yogurt sauce is made with soy) but online it says their yogurt sauce is vegetarian so please double or triple check with the staff :) So it was pretty late already, nearly midnight and spontaneously went to Maoz which is located pretty central near the Gothic Quarter and El Raval. You can get yourself either a bowl or a pita bread with falafels, hummus and baba ganoush. Now you have some kind of buffet with lots of different options and sauces to choose from. You pay about 5,90€(as far as I can remember) once and can fill your bowl or bread as many times as you want!!! Yess!! Dangerous for me as I can never get enough haha. So in the end we filled the bowl again and took it home so had our lunch for the day after :)
Roots and Rolls
THIS PLACE 🖤🖤🖤
I was just so stunned you can't imagine! It's not only the food but the service and atmosphere inside. We both had the tasting menu with several things to try which is just perfect for two people. I'll explain each dish a bit more in detail below:
And afterwards a cheesecake and coffee. The coffee was amazing! The cake was alright, not the best one as it wasn't much like a cheesecake. But still good and they have different dessert to choose from such as a brownie and sticky toffee pudding :) What I have to add is that many dishes are very flavored/salty, but not all. For example noticed that with the meat skewers and the peanut sauce. If you know about the German tastebuds you can tell that we love a good amount of salt and flavor in our dishes so it was definitely a good point for both of us :)
Santoni Cafe
This place was also one of my favorites(okay I think there are more than three now already haha) but the selection there was insane for such a good price. Both perfectly to eat on the go or within the small shop. I'm pretty sure it's a family business. They deserve a lot more attention in my opinion! We tried different empanadas(I had pumpkin Chris four cheese and ham & cheese) and a chocolate croissant, served warm. Everything is super affordable too!
Teresa Carles
We wen't to this place on Saturday after we decided not to go to the Cat Bar(which has vegan burgers but weren't in the mood for it) and Vegetalia Gotico(was a bit too pricy in my opinion). Chris had burgers and I got a roasted carrot and avocado salad while sharing the polenta fries which are so INSANELY good. you need to try them! They're also super cheap with 2,50€ or 3,50€ can't remember exactly but worth it! Just ask for an additional dip such as ketchup or mayo it's free.
Ice Cream Bio
Okay now get ready for the real food porn here. This was the place we went to on our last evening. We were actually supposed to go to the store right next to it called Demasie who has cinnamon rolls but the vegan options were sold out, got us a Banana Latte there only and bought vegan bubble waffles(Chris had Sexy Caramel I went for Tiramisu) and well, what do I need to say? I never had a bubble waffle before in my life and I'm OBSESSED 💜 This is a real experience here you shouldn't miss out on!

Beer for Chris, Kombucha for me
Cauliflower Popcorn. super super tasty! The dip could've be a bit more deeper in flavor tho but apart from that super good!
I'm not the biggest fan of fake meat but these were the best fake meat skewers I ever tried. The Satay Heura made with Heura soy meat which I had for the first time. And the peanut sauce. So delicious! Very spicy and strong in taste but we both loved it 🖤
These were the Ny Noodles in a peanut & sesame dressing along with cucumber, kohlrabi and carrot. I think one of my favorites even if there wasn't much of sauce/dressing but you were able to taste it all!
Gyozas. Loved them! The filling was super tasty which consists of sesame, tofu, ginger and shiitake mushrooms in a sweet dashi sauce!
A variety of different kinds of sushi. Each was very tasty but we both loved the most left one the most which was with mango and avocado.
And afterwards a cheesecake and coffee. The coffee was amazing! The cake was alright, not the best one as it wasn't much like a cheesecake. Lastly I wanna list you a bunch of other recommendations and things I found in the supermarkets:
I can't remember the store of the cookies below but this is a good time to mention how common and known veganism is in Barcelona. In literally every store I went into asking about vegan options everyone was well informed and able to immediately tell me what is vegan and what not. For example in this store these two cookie versions are. The store is located somewhere in the Gothic Quarter Area that's what I can remember. A few streets further there was also an Italian ice crem shop with a few vegan options.
Then you NEED to try this milk!!!! They have a huge range of different kind of milk alternatives and flavors from the brand Vive Soy but this one which has different nuts inside such as hazelnut, almond, cashew and walnut is the BEST MILK I've ever tried!!!! We also had the Piña Colada one which was good too and really interesting. I would have loved to try out all of them to be honest :D
Then we went to Lidl and wow, I was stunned! Look at all the vegan options you have there and this wasn't even all of it!! Everything was well labelled and you definitely won't leave the store without empty bags. We got the vegan candy/liquorice as well the tofu dessert.
If you stumble across these cookies which are available in many stores, go for them!! Super chunky chocolate cookies. Loved them(and Chris too!!) 🍪🍪
Lastly something you better NOT eat are these oranges/mandarines :D Chris got me one from a tree I spotted in the dark and got super excited to find out it was just bitter and sour in taste. Then a few people on Instagram told me they're actually not edible :D
I hope this review will help you a bit on your next or first Barcelona travel trip :) You definitely won't have to be worried about starving as you have endless vegan options. Let me know if you have any questions about anything here I'm happy to help you out!!

Hi there again :)
ReplyDeleteSo... regarding Roots & Rolls: I guess people have different perspectives about salt >_< I had the popcorn cauliflower (unedible for me and my bf), the heura with the peanut sauce (very salty as well but at least I liked it) and the crepes okonomiyaki (the same huge amount of salt...) So it was quite disappointing :( The service, however, was perfect, but I don't think I'll go back.
Vegesana + Trocadero: not too good either xD But at least in Vegesana they're soooooooo nice, more than once they have given us free food, they're really lovely.
Teresa Carles + Maoz: I really like them! Though I only went to Maoz once and it was a long time ago, too bad the place is so tiny.
As for Vegan Bowls, I've only had their giant chocolate cookie and it was SO GOOD, a little too much as I only manage to have 2-3 bites before feeling filled up and giving it to my bf, but it was incredible tasty and decadent.
Chök: never been there, though I pass near the place all the time! Your pics look SO YUMMY, definitely a must-try.
And finaly, unrelated to food: which is the brand of the lipstick you wear in the Roots&Rolls pic, please? I LOVE IT, it suits you perfectly. Thanks darling!
:) :) :)
Hey again Myriam my sweet angel! <3
DeleteYes that's true as I know so many people who don't use salt at all. But I definitely need it. Even if I tend to overuse it sometimes haha. But I'm happy to let them know so they could alter that for the future :)
I'm glad you have the same opinion as me regarding these both, seems like we have a similar taste :D
It was very crowded at Maoz that's true. You can hardly sit anywhere :( We went there right before midnight so I'm not sure how full it normally is but managed to get something to sit down at the window.
Was the chocolate cookie filled? I spotted these but they looked boring to me. Had an eye on the almond butter and chocolate covered pretzels tho but wasn't in the mood for more food as I just had breakfast that day :D Maybe try these instead :3
Definitely go to Chök for like a date or something it's perfect for coffee and small treats and not too expensive in my opinion <3
The Matte Velvetine Lipstick is from Lime Crime x Dolls Kill in Cement it was a collab and seems to be out of stock everywhere already D: I tried to find something similar right now it's not that easy. Even Jeffree Star doesn't have that shade in range. But I'm sure you can find something if you google a bit. Hope that helps darling. And have a gorgeous week ahead! <3

DeleteThanks so much for the lipstick info! You're totally right, out of stock T_T But I've seen a Maybelline one (besides a line that I love, the Superstay Matte Ink), called Huntress (awesome name too, right?) and I think I'll get it this weekend :D
Here's a pic of it:

Not the same as yours, that's for sure, but hopefully it'll be cool!
EDIT --> seems it's not vegan, so I'll have to keep looking!
Regarding the cookie, yes! It was a little like the Chips ahoy you loved hehee but instead of crunchy, it was soft and gooey, I'm drooling over the memory of it hahaha.
Have a nice Monday night :D :***

DeleteAm so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. I really like that you are posting more via the blog, it is always a nice read.
ReplyDeleteWould like to recommend a comic that you might like, it's not japanise though, but norwegian. Maybe you already know it, it is named "Nemi" by Lise Myhre. I think it has been translated into english,as well as german. The main charakter reminds me a little bit of you infact.
I know you can buy the german translation on amazon.
Recommend you to check it out🙂
Oh thank you so much!! Would love to know who you are, my sweet reader <3

No, actually didn't know about the series🙈
ReplyDeleteBut if it's as good as the comics, you can't do anything wrong if you give it a try🙂
